                                 NOMINEES

Luis Tejada: After winning back to back games, McMahon football suffered a loss against Ridgefield last week. Luis Tejada never took his foot off the pedal. He had 4 tackles in the endeavor, 3 solo and 2 for a loss of yards and 1 sack.

Sydney Molaver: Molaver, a defensive center-back for the girls soccer team, has been a key part of the defensive backfield that this team has been counting on all season. McMahon’s girls soccer team has only let up 10 goals this entire 2018 season and Molaver has had a huge contribution to this lockdown defense. She showed that once again against St. Joseph’s last week.

Delaney Oak: Senior captain, Delaney Oak, scored her first two goals of the year in the game against Trumbull this past week. Oak's two goals lead the team to victory against Trumbull, which they needed to go to states.

Masai Castillero: The boys soccer team has done nothing but impress all season. Here is another player that stands out every game. Castillero had three goals last week, one against Bridgeport and two in the FCIAC game against Danbury.

WINNER: MASAI CASTILLERO

Masai Castillero, a forward on the McMahon Boys varsity soccer team, is this week's, “Athlete of the Week!”

With the performance of three goals in the two games they played this week, one against Bridgeport, and two against Danbury in their first FCIAC game.

The boys soccer program has improved dramatically after their 0-9-7 ending from last season. They have jumped to 8-4-4 with many returning players.

When asked how the team has improved from last year, Masai answered “Last year we didn’t click well together. Elias (Pardo), Chris (Ocampo), George (Simpson) and I (Castillero) all have a much stronger connection this year and that has helped with our overall performance”.

With the improvement of the team on and off the field, connection has made a great impact alone on Castillero's performance.

His fellow players have noticed an overall improvement, “He’s obviously faster and quicker. I think he’s doing so well this year because he’s really grown with his special awareness and vision of the field. I’m always amazed at what he can do with such little time and space".

Castillero has made an impressive impact on the boy's soccer program so far and still has another year to improve the program.
