Pridetime Reporter: Chris Clemens On December 13th the Brien McMahon girls basketball team opened their season with a win over the Darien Blue Wave by a score of 46-38.
The Senators were down at half by a score of 20-10. But in the second half, the Senators turned it on by the outscoring the Blue Wave 36-18.Senior Shaniya Mesilen led the way with 11 points and junior Michelle Perea also added 10 points to the winning effort. “It was awesome to go out there and get our first win in our first game especially since it was against Darien who we lost to in our first game last year .”[Bryanna Perez ‘19] The turning point in the game is when Shaniya Meilen had 9 points and Michelle Perea had six in the fourth quarter that really gave the senators the breathing room they needed to pull away with the win.”I believe that played a key part in the win today was that even when we were down at half we never gave up, we wanted to come out firing in the second half and that is exactly what we did.”[Shaniya Mesilen’18] The Lady Senators will look to keep the momentum going on Friday when they travel to Fairfield to take on the Fairfield Warde Mustangs at 7 pm.
