What’s hot? What’s in style for students and teachers walking through the halls of Brien McMahon High School? What new trends are students going crazy and draining their parents’ pockets over? Most of the time we’re looking down at cat videos on Instagram while on our way to class. However, if each of us took a second to look at what everyone else is wearing, we might spot a few pieces we’ve never seen before or a few pieces we might want to go home and try to replicate. Rachel Hernandez, a senior, is no stranger to experimenting with her style and has been expressing herself through her fashion choices for as long as she can remember.

Rachel describes her style as comfortable, but she doesn’t just stop there. She likes to tie her look with trendy pieces inspired by tv shows and movies and fashion from the 70’s. Her style is casual yet flashy fashion which means that it’s calm but it’s an “I’m here for it” look.

When asked what a person’s choice of clothing says about them, she went on to say it’s, “a reflection on oneself. The way one dresses is a form of showing the world a piece of who you are by sight.”
She believes that many students tend to focus on dressing to fit in rather than dressing how they want. She explained that many students react to others dressing in a dissimilar manner and call them a “weirdo” or saying that they’re “out there.”

Rachel believes that what you wear is the first thing some people notice about you. She goes on to say that sometimes it’s okay to want what everyone else has. The example she used was a black North Face backpack, something that she has seen a lot of at school.

“I think at one point one have all been in a position where we all want to fit in and express that by our clothes [or accessories] we wear.” However, she still does strongly believe that people should choose what they wear not because everyone else is wearing it, but because it’s something they truly like.

So what is really hot at McMahon? What is making the world go round here? What are students wearing around here? All I can say is variety!
