Sahily Cortez ('21) has a sense of fashion that stands out compared to others.  Her creativity and originality come from multiple factors in her life such as her origin of residency, influences, and her aspiring career choice.

Cortez believes that growing up in Fairfield plays a part in how she dresses.

“I am from Fairfield and the two cities have different senses of fashion… In a way, I brought my Fairfield fashion into Norwalk. People would see that and compliment me on how nice I dressed and that's when I was like, ‘oh maybe I should step my game up,’” Cortez said.

PrideTime questioned her as to what category she believed her style would fall under and she said it was not a single style, it was more like a mix of trendy and vintage.

When questioned what her interpretation of the words, “trendy” and “vintage,” meant in regards to her pictured outfit, she responded with, “The jeans and the jacket is what I interpret to be vintage… the shirt, hat and glasses are what I interpret to be trendy.”

Cortez has been developing her taste for fashion over the past four years.

She explains how she likes the way Julia Roberts in the 90’s would dress and that she has been someone that heavily influences her fashion sense as well as the fashion editorials she would read in magazines.

“I started getting more into fashion when I would read magazines… and that got me more intrigued… I look up to Julia Roberts back in the 90’s… I always try to include vintage pieces in my wardrobe,” Cortez said.

Her current favorite brand is Guess because she enjoys throwback pieces from their past line.

She continued to state, “My favorite brand would definitely have to be Guess.  Guess has a lot of different variety of clothing, I like throwback Guess... Guess now is nice but throwback Guess pieces are hard.”

She enjoys throwback pieces from their past line, she also gets inspiration from the musical artist she listens to now such as Frank Ocean and Mac DeMarco.

“The way they dress is so nice, it makes me want to add more pieces similar to theirs.”
