Brien McMahon senior, Spencer Wellen, has always been captivated by musicals. Many of the people in his life are also interested, especially his father, who would often take Spencer to plays. In addition to his father, Spencer has been influenced by his friends in the drama department. After years of interest, Spencer finally decided to audition for a school play.
“Since freshmen year I wanted to be in a musical, just never got around to auditioning.” Said Wellen.
It turns out that Spencer has a knack for acting, in fact, he landed the part of Warner Huntington III in the school’s production of Legally Blonde. Ironically he was more surprised than anybody.
“I was worried people might be upset about it, but everyone was more than welcoming and, even excited that I got the part.” Said Spencer
Thankfully, practice for the play did not interfere with football practice. Spencer was a captain for the Senators last fall, but by the time the play really got going the season was coming to a close. And somehow, the athlete turned-actor finished the second quarter with a 3.9 GPA.
“I learned that you have to be really out going in everything you do.”Spencer claimed . He continued “whether you make a fool of yourself or not there's no downside to it you always make friends no matter what.’’
As Spencer’s senior year comes to an end, he hopes to attend UMASS or Temple. Eventually he hopes to get an MBA, and go into business.
Spencer feels like senior year is one to remember thanks in part to his friends in the cast of Legally Blonde.
