When walking to class-to-class, you may notice many things going around. Whether it could be clothing, accessories, or even hair, there are many trends that are taking place in McMahon right now. Here are just a few that are very popular among the students right now.
It may sound silly but, lashes have been a trend in McMahon for a couple of months now. Many think it is probably mascara doing its work but, that is not exactly true. Most lashes that girls in McMahon have are known as, lash extensions. Lash extensions are made from single strand of synthetic eyelashes, giving off a curl to replicate natural lashes but, provide more length and thickness to your own lashes. Although it seems very cool, it can cost from $80 to $200 dollars, so this isn’t cheap.
Another alternative, however is also the most common, are false lashes, which is serve the same purpose as extensions but, are much more simpler to apply and can be made from several different materials than what extensions use, making it a whole lot cheaper (typical price is: $20.) The reason for this trend is very obvious since makeup and beauty have been popular among girls in McMahon. Lashes give off a very bold and fierce look which is why maybe many girls are hopping on this trend.
Many girls with braids are seen not only seen with those beautiful twists but only with laid edges but why are they a trend? Let’s start with, what are edges? Hair edges are the hairs located around the hairline including the baby hairs. Most girls style their edges in a elaborate yet creative way. Celebrities like Zendaya and Rihanna, are seen with laid edges and with power of social media and the evolution of beauty, hair edges are popular than ever with a variety of how to style it.
Braids have been since on many girls here in McMahon but why has it gone so popular? The braids, most commonly known as box braids, are hair braids that are characterized by squared-shaped hair divisions and other divisions like diamond or triangle-shaped parts and can also be created by adding synthetic braiding hair. This hairstyle has become a trend because of the numerous ways you can style it. From up-dos to even having some color, this beautiful hairstyle has risen to popularity because of its unique ways of styling.
Nike Air-Force 1s
These white Air-Forces have been worn by many students since last month. The iconic Nike Air-Force 1s hit the market back in 1982, originally used as basketball shoes and the first basketball shoes to feature Nike Air. The reason why is, that the shoes that provide a gap filled with air in the heel for cushioning and support when playing. It was the considered to be the best selling-shoe of all time and by the looks of students wearing it, it is definitely safe to say the Air Force 1s are still the best.
Although Air-Force 1s are rarely used to play in basketball today, this shoes have become a huge fashion trend because of its basic look but can be paired with anything.
Trends have come and gone in McMahon but, there’s no doubt that these trends will go away anytime soon. Although trends are nice to hop on, it is always good to remember to stay true to yourself and wear these trends however you want.

This is Officer Theodore J. Garbera. He is our trusted school officer, who also works at the Norwalk Police Department. This intimidating, 39 year-old, 6 foot and 9 inch cop keeps most of the security measures and safety measures in check at Brien McMahon.
Officer Garbera is located on the first floor in the art corridor. At first, Officer Garbera was a military marine officer. After the time of his graduation from the Marines in San Diego, he applied to San Diego State University. Later in his younger years, Garbera moved to Connecticut because he saw a job opportunity as an officer, so he then attended NCC and majored in criminal justice and social working in order to obtain the job. Although Garbera received a criminal justice degree, thinking it would help his future position as a cop, he stressed the importance of his social work degree on his current career.
“It is best to get a degree in social work, or psychology because when you can no longer work as a cop you would be able to have another job,” said Garbera.
When walking into Officer Garbera’s office, the first thing that catches your eye is this SWAT gear. We asked Garbera what this equipment could be used for. “Well the only time I would use that gear is if there were a school shooting.”
Garbera explained that this gear is not like the normal bullet proof vest. This vest has ceramic plates inside it; so therefore, it can stop a 762 mL rifle. The normal vests that officers wear under their apparel have steel plates inside that can stop a regular 9 ml handgun (or the cop glock).
Finally, Officer Garbera explained to us the hassle he had to go through in order to become a cop. He stated that there are two phases to the federal officer department. Phase one involves: A physical ability test, a written test, and an oral interview with the heads of the police department. The second phase involves: Another interview, background check, a psychological test, and finally a polygraph (lie detector). Officer Garbera, just like every other cop, had to go away for six months of police academy, Monday through Friday. Every cop has to know how to fire a gun (especially the 9 ml glock) and is required to carry a taser.
If you ever meet this friendly giant, say hello to him. And if you are interested in the police field, he has great advice about criminal justice majors and preparations on how to become a police officer.
