Are you a senior? Did you have yet caught the virus? The Senioritis? It's going around fast and hard! Not sure what Senioritis is? Senioritis is a supposed affliction of students in their final year of high school or college, characterized by a decline in motivation or performance; so no it is not a real disease, but it does affect you in variety of ways. Most students attending school on their final year get so tired and lazy that their performance as said above starts to lack and drag purpose. It makes it hard for student to focus because they are either mentally drained or just plain old tired! Waking up at six or seven in the morning to either to take a bus that arrives early. Having to force yourself to focus the first period of the day when honestly you’re half asleep. In some cases students work all night and try to still manage to do homework, which drives them to be up til one in the morning. So yes some of us have a reason to be late, and tired all the time! But what will society or the board of education do about this? What would you want to do about this…?
I did a spontaneous trip around Brien Mcmahon High school asking students specifically seniors Class of 2017, if they knew what senioritis was… here are some responses.
Desiree Reid “Oh right about now? definitely I have senioritis; I am just tired of doing this, they need to start school at 9 or something…”
Desiree’s last opinion drew me more questions to ask and more research to do. I looked up why hasn’t the board change the starting of high school at nine am or even the pros and cons of the idea? In this article Sleepy Teens: Highschool” Scientists that studies teens, say that all teens need at least seven hours of sleep; but according to most of students in high school either have work and have busy schedules, it is physically and mentally impossible to get at least seven hours of sleep on a school night. Now some of you are wondering wow school starting at nine AM? That probably be wonderful but also that would be a bad idea, school definitely would have to end later, which isn't so bad because if you take a look at elementary school elementary school start at 9:05 and ends at 3:25 well at least my elementary school, that isn't so bad.
I went around and ask students what they'd prefer, starting school at nine or keeping it at seven.
Matthew Joseph “I would definitely go to school at nine AM if it was possible, because for me waking up in the morning is a difficult process, I hate being woken up out of my sleep, on top of that I work late nights after school which affects me very badly”.
Ever wonder how teachers do it? well yeah they had to graduate high school, so they been through it already, but why would you want to do that again? And that's where the facts come in high school is supposed to be a tool to help you later in life for early set jobs. For example obviously teachers.
Most students hate the fact that school starts early like that. But has the board tried to do anything about it? they tried but the bill hasn't pass yet. Surely teachers, and housemaster truly understands that a lot of you are busy and things happen… but don't give up pull through seniors! Time is approaching very quickly!
