Our school store finally reopened earlier this week. Keith Velasquez, Brenda Vega, and Victor Borges are the senior students who currently work there. They sell things such as rice krispies, Sunny D, fruit snacks, popcorn, and sunchips; the list goes on. Everything sold is under $1.50 which is perfect for a high school seniors budget.
At the start of second period there is usually a line waiting outside the store's door for students to get their snacks and head off to class. The environment is always so warm and welcoming as the workers and the students are so kind and respectful to each other. “The best part about working here is that I have the privilege to interact with people that I haven't met all my four years here at Brien Mcmahon”, said Keith.
Brenda said “I think we can make a profit if we keep selling everything that we buy. We can make something big out of it”.
Mr. Ayala and Ms. Munkwitz are the class advisors who are in charge of the whole thing. “All the money from the school store goes to the Koroshetz fund” said Emily Davis (‘16). This is the fund that can help out with things like prom or the PGP.
The opening of the school store was late this year because the class advisers we not originally in charge of it. Victor Borges said “ The school store should have been open earlier in the year. Originally it was the class advisors who were going to open it because last year Ms. Bunce was in charge of it. It was brought up in one of the class officers meeting if they could open up the school store”.
With the success of last years store still reigning over their heads they asked if they could take over and reopen it and they got approved.
To work in the school store you have to have a 3.0 or higher GPA and you must fill out a form and get three teachers to sign off on vouching for you. Permission slips are right outside Miss Monkewitz door, Room 2075. Only seniors that have second or third period free are allowed to work there.
