NORWALK-McMahon’s Girls Varsity Soccer team took the victory (1-0) on Monday, Sept 18th, after Peyton McNamara (‘20), D-1 Recruit, scored a second half goal, upsetting Darien Blue Wave Girls Varsity team.
Darien appeared to have a relaxed approach to their warm ups before the game that was even noticeable to McMahon’s players. This attitude continued throughout the game with McMahon obtaining over 60% ball possession.
“Darien thought that it was going to be an easy game, but we wanted it more on the field and you can tell. We ended up on top." varsity goalie, Tatiana Arias (18') said.
Peyton McNamara (‘20) scored the only goal of the game in the 58th minute from over 25 yards away, leading to a McMahon victory. Darien was given the opportunity to tie, being one on one with the goalie, but Tatiana Arias (‘18), McMahon’s varsity goalie, made an incredible save. She shot and blocked it, having the ball go out of bounds, conceding a corner.
“Honestly, we didn’t want to lose possession, so we tried dribbling and just possessing the whole time. We didn’t want to risk balls over the top when we could just dribble and pass,” says varsity midfielder, Mikayla Fosina (‘18)
McMahon’s next game is on Saturday, Sept. 23rd against Stamford at 6 pm. If you weren’t able to make any of their past games, be sure to make their future ones.
“I haven’t been to any games, but I plan on trying to go. I believe in our school and I think that this team is on to bigger and better things.” says Rebekah Duffey (‘20)
