48.1 million Americans lived in food-insecure households, including more than 15 million children according to FeedingAmerica.org, and the Brien McMahon community wants to change that.
Until November 23rd houses will be collecting canned food, it will be going to shelters in Norwalk for Thanksgiving. For a little motivation the winning house will receive a pizza party.
“Not everyone can afford food for their family.” says Brien McMahon teacher Ron Sabad, “During the holiday season it's nice to have extra, so giving people what they need and even a little extra makes people feel good.”
One thing that needs to be stressed is just how important the food drive is. Just because hunger isn't visible, doesn't mean it's non-existent.
When asked just how much the students at McMahon understand the importance of the food drive Sabad said, “Not sure unless the student is in need.”
The goal this year is to break last years record of 2,086 cans.
Mr.Kane summed it up by saying, “This time of year it shouldn't just be about giving to those around you, but giving to those everywhere. it's a time of giving.”
The winning house will be recognized by Pride Time.
