What does music do for you? Personally music is what gets me going in the morning. I really can’t function without listening to music. For many other people it can change emotions, start your day, or even accompany you throughout your difficulties.
Isaias Martinez (‘18) stated, “It (music) helps me focus,” when I asked him what effect it has on him. Martinez also exclaimed, “when I do homework or work out, it helps me take initiative to do what I need to do.” I thought it was interesting to hear that music drives him to do things that need to be done. People say music helps time go by, and that seems to be the case for Martinez when he is trying to complete homework or working out.
Come to find out, according to Martinez, there are different genres of music for different situations or tasks that are being completed at hand. He said, “When I’m working out or driving I play up tempo music such as rap or hip hop. Then when I’m doing work or relaxing I play a little bit of soft music or laid back music such as R&B and classical music.“ Music can assist us in our everyday duties.
I found that music can relate to us in many ways. Jeanine Maldonado (‘18) said, “Sometimes I listen to sappy or sad music because it’s the music I can relate to the most at the moment.” I thought it was interesting to hear that we can relate our lives or what we are going through at the time to music. It’s always a relief to hear that someone is going through the same thing you are when times are rough.
“Listening to music is way of escaping life or just letting me get things off my mind,” indicated Jeanine. Obviously for Jeanine, music is a very essential part of her life. As so it is for many others out there. Music has a way of bringing emotions out of us or even just relating to how we may feel at the time.
Music plays a big part of our lives and does so much for us. The music we listen to, in a way, shapes us to be who we are. Music can set us free from our problems, help us through troubling times, and help us focus and get through what needs to be done.
