A question that seems to come to mind after a soundcloud link appears is: why does everyone want to be a rapper? Soundcloud, a website which inspiring musicians post their music to is a way to gain listeners and one day make it big time. Many musicians like Post Malone, D.R.A.M, Kehlani, Future, Kodak Black, and G-Eazy, used Soundcloud as a way to gain more exposure and by posting their music they made it possible for others, like aspiring McMahon students, to follow their lead and have those dreams as well.
“My goal is to be rapper and to be inspirational while putting Norwalk on the map and the way I can achieve this is by using Soundcloud to help me gain followers for my music”, explained Phillip Zephir ‘17 who goes by the rap name “Philly Classic”.
Chandler Greene ‘18 on the other hand raps for fun, “I don't have many expectations for music. I did a song as a joke and then continued because I liked making them. I don't really care who listens to them but it would be cool to have a lot of views.”
Chandler Greene started the rap trend earlier this month while joking around with his friend Justin Forde who invited him to a studio.
Justin Forde ‘19 doesn’t take rap seriously either. He does it for fun and for a way he can interact with his friends. Justin Forde has been rapping for two years and isn't expecting much from it.
“I rap for fun and to entertain, I have so much fun with it it and I can work on raps all day.”
The answer to everyone's question on why so many people rap is simple, it's either they wanna go big time or simply do it for fun.
