Spirit week! The week where students at Brien McMahon celebrate their school pride in activities having to do with their school’s sports teams, wearing school colors and more. Spirit week is held during the week before the homecoming game. The students in the school either choose to dress up or not. Some kids go all out and dress up the whole week, while some kids dress up for some of the days and there’s students that did not participate at all. . But do you want to know who showed the most school spirit.
The days, this year, at McMahon were Jersey Day, Tropical Tuesday, Twin Day, Throwback Thursday, and lastly Friday was Red,White, and Blue day. On Jersey Day, which was on Monday, people wore their favorite jerseys. On Tropical Tuesday people dressed up Hawaiian or like they were going to the beach. Twin day, on Wednesday is where people dressed up with another person and wear matching clothes. Throwback Thursday you got to dress up in clothes from before the 2000s. Finally, Friday,Red, White, and Blue day is where most people pop out all the way, no holding back. They used face paint, wear tutus, jewelry just for school spirit.
Adryanna Munoz (‘20) wore a Patriots jersey with shoes to match and made sure her shoes were shown in the picture. You know you have to get it all.
“I wanted to show school spirit because it’s my junior year," says Adryanna Munoz.
On Tropical Tuesday, Reylene Martinez (‘19) wore a dress that brought her back to her vacation to Hawaii two years ago. “I haven’t worn a dress in so long and I loved it so much, I just felt so tropical," she says.
Twin day was on Wednesday and Kyra Calarco (‘19) and Rahul Ramcharan (‘19) decided to dress up in the same, shirt, and shoes.“I stole my boyfriend's shirt for Rahul to wear," says Kyra Calarco.
Thursday was obviously throwback Thursday and of course, the students threw it all the way back. Patricia Juarez wore cuffed ripped jeans with a tied flannel with a bandana. She had the red lipstick on and vans. “I was going for a chola look because of my hispanic roots," she says.
Red, white, and blue day! The last day of spirit week before the homecoming game. Walking into school you’ll see all the red, white, and blue decorations. The students took the time to stay after school and decorate the school with balloons, lights, and banners. The students loved the decorations. You would see so many students taking pictures and videos of the decorations and with them.
Malik Goethe (‘19) went all out and even got a red, white, and blue tutu. Who knew they had those! “I wanted to be as red, white and blue as possible," he says.
In the end, the students showed school spirit and guess what? We won the homecoming game! It could’ve been because the school had so much spirit.
