Pop singer Rihanna is finally gearing up for the release of her eighth studio album, ANTI. Her most recently released album since Unapologetic in 2012. The anticipation has been high since early 2015, and now we are ready to hear it in its entirety.
The Billboard chart-topping singer released Work as the albums first single on January 27, premiering on multiple radio stations that morning and charting on iTunes in 90+ countries. The album’s tracklist was accidentally leaked by Tidal that same day, released shortly afterwards for listening on the service exclusively. Those who own a Samsung device received the album for free, the rest of the world having access to it on January 29.
Rihanna, real name Robyn Fently, has been teasing fans for over a year, beginning when she released her single, FourFiveSeconds, featuring Kanye West and Paul McCartney, intending to be the first single off of Anti. The album was targeted for a late spring release last year, but was pushed back after a lack of success from the next two singles, B**ch Better Have My Money and American Oxygen. American Oxygen premiered exclusively on streaming service Tidal, for its first week before being released on other streaming services or for purchase, proving weak sales.
During 2015, the Grammy award winning singer released her music video for B**ch Better Have My Money and performed FourFiveSeconds at that years’ Grammy Award Ceremony. In early October 2015, she unveiled the cover and title of the forthcoming album, but kept fans in the blue about the release date. In late November, Rihanna announced the Anti World Tour, sponsored by Samsung and to begin in February 2016, but still no date.
In mid-December, a 30 second leak of a Rihanna track featuring rapper Drake titled Work was released online, heightened as the next single off the album and a music video to come with it. Videos and pictures were then released from the set of the music video, one of them coming from DJ Khaled’s Snapchat account, inferring he was on the set of the video that day.
The album is now available worldwide on Apple Music, iTunes and in physical formats on February 5, 2016. You can listen to ANTI below.
