Musicians use their music to express themselves. Some songs they write relate to personal experiences and brings back memories that cause them to feel a certain way, whether it’s happy or sad. Here are three emotional moments that occurred while singers were performing:

“You give me purpose,” Justin Bieber sings as he wipes his eyes from the tears that begin to fall. When Bieber released his album, titled Purpose, he was going through difficult times. His music went on to reflect his feelings and emotions. He had an interview with Billboard to explain the meaning of the song he cried to while he was performing.
He tells Billboard, “I lost my purpose, and I wanted to just be light and let people know that whether you don't feel like you have a purpose, whether you're just trying to figure it out, there's a light at the end of the tunnel.”
Jackie Molina, a fan of Bieber, said she understood why Bieber was starting to cry. “He was really emotional after performing because after being hated for many years, people were actually giving him positive recognition towards his music that he deserves.”
2. Ariana Grande at Madison Square Garden 2015

During Ariana Grande’s tour, she performed her song, My Everything, dedicated to her late grandpa, who she lost in July 2014. As the words of the heartfelt song poured out of her, she couldn’t help but let out tears. As she took a moment to herself, she encouraged her fans to sing along and her fans did their best to help bring out her smile.
Dayanara Matute, who attended this concert in March 2015, remembered the performance and said, “I had a feeling she was going to start crying during this song because it brings back many memories about her grandfather. When she started crying, my heart dropped and I just sat there and watched her.”
1. Perrie Edwards: 4 years of Little Mix Livestream 2015

When Perrie Edwards, a member of girl group Little Mix, sang her solo, she couldn’t finish her line without bursting into tears as she was dealing with recent split from ex-fiancé Zayn Malik. Jesy Nelson, Jade Thirlwall, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, the 3 other members of Little Mix, quickly huddled around her and comforted her as she continued to sob. Her fans also tried to uplift her spirits by shouting, “we love you, Perrie!”
Lupe Saldana (‘19) felt bad for Perrie after she heard the news of the two singers calling it quits in August 2015. “I was sad about it. I wanted them to get married.” When shown the video, Lupe said, “Oh my gosh no! I love her! She’s so sweet and beautiful.” She also went on to say that watching Perrie cry made her really sad.
As a celebrity, it seems as though all the pressure is on you. But seeing all these videos, it’s the emotion that brought these celebrities closer to their fans and that’s what music is all about.
